Ranger's Terminal
Learn the Linux command line by typing real commands on a safe, pretend Ubuntu: missions, a story and a quiz.
NEW Learn Linux commands in 73 missions: 58 practice missions plus 15 in a 14-chapter story.
Ranger got his own pretend Linux computer, modeled on Ubuntu. Help him find his way around it by typing real commands: ls, cd, grep, chmod, sudo, apt and more, in 58 practice missions, including editing files with nano.
New: STORY mode. You're the new Linux sysadmin at Kibble & Co.: 14 chapters of lessons and real on-call incidents (a full disk, a broken web server, a cron job that never ran), 73 missions in all.
Nothing you type touches a real computer, but the output and error messages are modeled on Ubuntu 24.04 and checked against a real one. Get hints when stuck, learn what each command really does, explore in free play, and test yourself with a 90-question quiz.
