RANGER GAMEZ

Puzzle guide

A minesweeper-style puzzle with no guessing

Classic minesweeper sometimes leaves you with a 50/50 guess. SNIFF & DIG never does. Every yard is checked so that it can be cleared by logic alone, from the first dig to the last.

Instead of mines there are napping cats, and instead of a timer there's Ranger, gently digging up the yard. Boards start small and grow from 6x6 up to 10x14.

How to play

  1. Each number tells you how many cats nap in the squares around it, including corners.
  2. Dig grass you know is safe. Dig where a cat is napping and it wakes up (that counts as an oops).
  3. Put a Shh sign on grass you know hides a cat, so you don't dig it.
  4. Clear every safe square to finish the yard.

Questions

Is this the same as minesweeper?

It uses the same idea of numbers counting hidden things around them, but with cats instead of mines, and every board is built so you never need to guess.

Is it good for kids?

Yes. It's gentle: waking a cat just counts as an oops, and the first worlds are small boards with hints that explain the logic.

Is there a daily puzzle?

Yes. A new yard comes out every day, the same one for everyone, with a streak and a Share button.

Is it free?

Yes. Every puzzle is free to play in your browser. There are no ads, no sign-up and nothing to download.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes. It works on phones, tablets and computers. Your progress is saved on the device you play on.
