Free addition practice, from 2 + 3 to carrying

Addition is the first thing Ranger's Math Trail practices. Young kids start with sums up to 10 and tap the answer from four choices. Older players move on to adding two- and three-digit numbers, where you line up the columns and carry.

Every question has a hint and a Show me how button. Small sums show a jump on a number line; bigger ones show the column work, one place at a time.

Free, no sign-up. The game asks your age once, then every answer comes with a hint and a step-by-step Show me how.

How to do it

  1. For small sums, start at the bigger number and count on the smaller one.
  2. Make a ten when you can: 8 + 5 is 8 + 2 (that makes 10) + 3 more, so 13.
  3. For big numbers, line them up by place value: ones under ones, tens under tens.
  4. Add each column from the right. If a column makes 10 or more, write the ones digit and carry the 1 to the next column.

Worked examples

Example 18 + 4 = ?

  1. Start with the bigger number: 8.
  2. Make a ten: 8 + 2 = 10. That uses 2 of the 4.
  3. You still have 2 left: 10 + 2 = 12.

Questions

What age is this addition practice for?

About ages 5 to 9 (kindergarten to grade 4). The game asks your age first: 5-year-olds get sums to 10 with tap-the-answer choices, older kids type bigger sums on a number pad.

Can my child play without reading?

Yes. For ages 7 and under, questions are read aloud and the answers are big buttons. You can turn reading aloud on or off in Settings.
